Frequently Asked Questions About WeatherLens
Is WeatherLens free to use?
Yes, completely. All weather comparison features, destination data, and monthly climate averages are available for free without requiring an account or sign-up. WeatherLens is supported by advertising, which allows us to keep the tool free for all travelers.
How often is the weather data updated?
Current temperature data is refreshed via the OpenWeatherMap API every 3 hours. The underlying climate database (30-year monthly averages) is reviewed and updated weekly, including adding new destinations and incorporating any corrections. All updates are recorded in the Data Update Log on the homepage.
Can I compare a city that is not in your database?
Yes. If you type a city name that is not in our 77-destination database, WeatherLens will search for it using the OpenWeatherMap geocoding API and display live current weather conditions. You can compare a database city (with full monthly historical data) against a live city (current conditions only), or compare two live cities against each other. Historical monthly charts are only available for cities in the database.
Where does the weather data come from?
WeatherLens aggregates data from three primary sources: the OpenWeatherMap API (current conditions), NOAA's Global Historical Climatology Network (historical station data), and the ERA5 reanalysis dataset from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (satellite-derived climate records). For full details on our data pipeline and methodology, visit our About page.
How is the travel comfort score calculated?
The comfort score (0 to 100) combines four factors: temperature comfort (40% weight, optimal at 20 to 28°C), rainfall (25% weight), humidity (20% weight, optimal at 40 to 60%), and sunshine hours (15% weight). Scores above 75 indicate excellent travel weather. The full methodology is explained on our About page and in our Travel Weather Guide.
Can I request a new destination to be added?
Absolutely. Use the contact form above and select "Request a New Destination" as the subject. Include the city name and country, and we will prioritize it for the next database update. New destinations are typically added within one to two weeks of request.
I think the data for a destination is wrong. How do I report it?
Use the contact form above and select "Data Correction" as the subject. Please include the city name, the specific metric that seems incorrect (temperature, rainfall, humidity, etc.), the month in question, and what you believe the correct value should be. We cross-check all reports against our source data and correct any verified errors promptly.
Does WeatherLens work on mobile devices?
Yes. WeatherLens is fully responsive and designed to work on phones, tablets, and desktops. The comparison tool, destination grid, and all charts adapt to your screen size. Both light and dark modes are available on all devices.
Do you sell my data?
No. WeatherLens does not sell personal data. We use Google AdSense for advertising, which uses cookies to serve relevant ads based on your browsing interests. You can opt out of personalized ads at any time through Google's Ad Settings. For complete details, see our Privacy Policy.
